Upendra Mahato pledges Rs 150m support
Billionaire businessman Upendra Mahato has announced Rs 150 million in assistance for the relief and rehabilitation of the Great Earthquake victims.Ekantipur Report
At a press meet organised in the Capital on Saturday, Mahato said Rs 30 million will be spent on relief and the remaining Rs 120 million will be spent for rehabilitation work through Phul Kumari Mahato Memorial Trust, a charitable organisation established in memory of Mahato's mother.
"Rs 30 million will be spent on immediate relief package such as tents, food stuff and clothing," said Mahato in the press meet.
He said Rs 120 million will be spent for the construction of quake-resistant school buildings in the highly affected region.
Mahato expressed grief at the loss of lives in the quake and appealed Nepali people not to lose hope and stay united in rescue, relief and reconstruction of the country. 'Nepali people are known for their strong will power, confidence and dedication and with this strength we will be able to bounce back and rebuild our nation' he said.
Mahato is the founding President of Non Resident Nepali Association.
