It's time for unity not quarrel: Dahal
May 10, 2015-
UPCN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal has underscored the need for national powers to stand united in order to turn the challenge brought up by the devastating earthquake into opportunity.
Speaking to media persons after visiting Brapak, the epicentre of April 25 earthquake, and its neighbouring villages—Laprak and Gumda—in Gorkha district on Sunday, Chairman Dahal said, “A national consensus government could be a symbol of unity.”
Chairman Dahal remarked that the nation could be at peril if the political forces could not come together at the time of national crisis. “The Nepal government should take the reins of command and control of national and international relief,” said Dahal, “People, political parties, nation and the people will be weak if the government is weak.”
Likewise, Chairman Dahal suggested that relief aids should be distributed through government-run state fund. “Government formation is not the priority of UCPN (M),” he said, “But we are not the hurdle if a national government is to be formed.
Dahal stressed on the need to form a powerful authority for disaster management and reconstruction. He said this great national tragedy has, however, inspired the parties to become flexible.
“Now the constitution will be drafted, the earthquake has taken away disputing minds,” he said. He added that it would not be wise to fight at a time when the nation itself has been demolished. He expressed his optimism that none of the earthquake victims would die of hunger as the government, legislature parliament and the political parties have come together to cope with the crisis.
