Non-government actors in Kavre ramp up relief distribution
Since the required amount of relief material has not reached Kavre more than two weeks after the Great Quake, different social organisations have ramped up their effortsThe Kavre Chamber of Commerce and Industries has distributed relief in 40 different places in the district so far. “We have collected supplies from several businesses,” said the president of the chamber, Surkrishna Baidya. “Our work is to distribute these materials in the areas that have been hit hard by the disaster.”
The Kavre Jaycees has also collected relief from Jaycees branches across the country. Materials from its branches in Urlabari, Biratnagar, Birgunj and Siddharthanagar, among others, have already been distributed in Naya Gaun, Bhaisenpati, Khawa, Baluwapati, Deupur and Mahadevsthan, according to Bikas Manandhar, chairman of the Kavre Jaycees. “More help is arriving from our other branches. As soon as we receive aid packages, we will distribute them to the victims,” he added.
The Lions Club of Kavre is another institution that is active in relief distribution. According to the club’s president Aman Pote, the club has pledged to incur all food expenses of the injured admitted to the Scheer Memorial Hospital in Banepa. Similarly, the Leo Club of Banepa has also mobilised about 100 volunteers in different hospitals in the district to help the victims and distribute the relief material.
Likewise, Unicef has already provided 1000 tarpaulins to the district so far. The Lions Club of Kathmandu, Love Green Nepal, Insec and Adra Nepal are other organisations that are involved in relief distribution. Local Development Officer Chiranjivi Timsina confirmed that 58 non-government organisations are helping in relief distribution. But unofficially, many more are involved in helping the needy.
