Health Minister Khagaraj Adhikari said they have requested the foreign medical teams to continue their service by remaining in their assigned areas.
“Our preliminary assessment shows that we don’t need additional medical teams. But for those who are already here, we have requested them to extend their stay,” said Adhikari.
According to the ministry, there are 107 international medical teams comprising 1,019 doctors and specialists working in various quake-affected districts.
The government has
classified the international medical teams into three categories: type 1, 2 and 3.
Type 1 medical teams can provide basic health services, while type 2 teams can provide more intensive hospital care. Similarly, type 3 foreign medical teams are the best equipped teams, who can provide continued care for at least a couple of months.
Meanwhile, World Health Organisation said they are working in close coordination with the ministry to treat those injured in the latest quake and those who are being rehabilitated.
Dr Lin Aung, WHO Representative to Nepal, said they have also sent medical tents to four hospitals for hospitals inside and outside the Kathmandu Valley.
