India continues to pour quake assistance to Nepal
Several medical teams and other government and non-government sectors are pouring huge aid in relief distribution, the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu has said.India’s support to Nepal’s rescue and relief efforts is guided and monitored by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The 16 NDRF teams deployed in various parts of quake hit areas rescued 11 persons alive and retrieved 132 dead bodies, including that of Nepal Army Major Binod Shrestha. It also rescued seven people and 22 dead bodies recovered during the first operation itself, said the Embassy in a statement.
Similarly, NDRF Medical Camps at six places treated 992 affected persons.
Indian IAF brought over 550 tons of relief material (food, tents, blankets, water, tarpaulins, baby food, medicine, etc.) rescue and heavy earth moving, engineering and communication equipment, ambulances, RO plant, oxygen generators, two Army Field Hospitals with 18 medical teams, 18 Army engineering teams and 16 NDRF teams.
“Eight Mi-17 and five Advanced Light Helicopters of Indian Army and crew at the disposal of Nepal Army for rescue and relief. From Kathmandu and Pokhara they have so far performed over 917 sorties, evacuated over 942 (mostly Nepalese and foreigners) persons, inducted over 1064 Nepal Army troops, carried over 2595 passengers (out of which about 500 were Indians), and airlifted close to 421.59 tons of stores," according to the Indian Embassy statement.
Indian Army deployed 18 medical teams, two Field Hospitals in Lagankhel (45 bedded) and Sinamangal, two medical teams at Barpak, one team each at Sinamangal, Gorkha and later Dhading so far attended to over 3638 patients in OPD, performed over 183 surgeries, attended to over 153 Admit cases and discharged over 71 patients, said the statement.
