Police said a total of 45 people were initially arrested from Boudha and Kalanki in Kathmandu and some areas of Lalitpur on suspicion of being involved in theft and burglary. However, 22 among them were released after investigation revealed they had no hand in such criminal activities.  

The Metropolitan Police Crime Investigation Division (MPCD) said eight people were arrested on charges of burglary from Boudha area. Police made them public along with gold, laptops and cameras that was found in their possession. Similarly, two persons who had fled after looting a sum of Rs 235,000 from Bishnu Maya Tamang of Boudha while she was returning from her bank have also been arrested.

Likewise, two persons were arrested on charge of breaking and entering the house belonging to one Shiva Raj Karki in Sunakoti, Lalitpur with the intention of robbery.

Police said that during this time three persons were also apprehended on charges of pickpocketing purses and wallets from unsuspecting individuals.

Senior Superintendent of Police Pushkar Karki, chief of MPCD, said they are running special operations focusing on quelling grand theft and burglary in the aftermath of April 25 earthquake and major aftershocks inside the Valley.
