Martyr’s family left in lurch after earthquake
The family of a man who attained martyrdom during People’s Movement-II has been left in lurch after the Great Earthquake of April 25.Pratap Bista
The 12-member family of Basudev Ghimire, who had died during the 2006 popular movement, are living under a single tarpaulin near their two-storied house at Aambhanjyang-3 that was destroyed by the earthquake.
“We have not felt the presence of government in our village,” said Krishna Prasad, 78, father of Basudev. Even our cowshed and toilet have been damaged by the quake, he said.
Chitra Kumari, mother of Basudev, was inside her house when the quake started rattling it vigorously.
“It was my neighbours who rescued me from collapsing house,” said Chitra Kumari. She said that the sole tarpaulin they got after their house was razed to the ground by the earthquake was not of good quality. “It has developed holes in several places because of which water seems inside and we are compelled to stay under the open sky,” she said.
Meanwhile, Chief District Officer Ram Prasad Thapaliya provided some food stuffs to the family
on Saturday. Thapaliya inspected the demolished house and distributed 50 kilograms of flattened rice and 50 kilograms rice including some other relief materials.
“The monsoon is going to begin soon, but we have not able to rebuild our house,” said Krishna.
