Explaining the choice of image, the tech giant said the concept of light in this Doodle meant three things for Nepal: celebration of this national day, prayers to Buddha, and a guiding light on the way home.
Doodles are surprising and spontaneous changes that are made to the Google logo to celebrate holidays, anniversaries, and the lives of famous artists, pioneers, and scientists. A team of illustrators—who are called doodlers—and engineers are behind each doodle.
“In the aftermath of the recent devastating and tragic earthquakes our hearts and minds are with the people of Nepal and the aid workers there helping to heal and mend families as they regain their footing, standing again as their world shifts beneath their feet,” said the message.
In the wake of the disaster, Google had launched a crisis response map and person finder to assist in relief and rescue missions and in the statement Google has said it will continue to help Nepal. “We’ll see you at the peak, again, Nepal,” the message concludes.
