Five more missions raise funds for relief
Five additional Nepali missions abroad have raised funds for the Prime Minister Disaster Relief Fund, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. They collected funds after the ministry reminded them about their activities and failure to raise relief funds after the April 25 earthquake. On Thursday, the ministry had stated that only 24 Nepali missions collected relief funds. Nepal has 29 Embassies, two permanent missions and three consular general offices abroad.
On Sunday, four additional Nepali missions in Paris (France), Ottawa (Canada), Manama (Bahrain), Berlin (Germany) and Yangoon (Myanmar) contributed to the relief fund. The missions in Paris, Ottawa, Manama and Yangoon deposited Rs 2.3 million, Rs 3.9 million, Rs 121,945, Rs 2.5 million and Rs 1.2 million respectively.
According to the ministry, 24 Nepali missions have collected Rs 550 million so far for the relief fund.
The ministry, which faced pressure as Prime Minister’ political advisor Subir Khanal dispatched letters to all Nepali missions abroad, started making public the status of funds raised by its missions. The ministry was also in an awkward situation as many missions did not raise funds at all.
