Major parties near consensus on six provinces
The major political parties have neared consensus on federalising country with six provinces.The determination of the number of provinces is one of the prickly issues of the constitution writing.
The leaders of the Nepali Congress, CPN (UML), UCPN (Maoist) and the Madhesi front have said they have nearly reached consensus on the disputed issues- federalism, judiciary, electoral system and form of governance.
UML's Vice-Chairman Bhim Rawal said today's meeting concentrated on the major contents of the constitution and made a very positive discussion on how the country could be restructured in six provinces. The meeting extensively discussed the number, naming and demarcation of the province, he said, adding that the top leaders of the parties have been given responsibility to finalise the issues which have been settled.
Similarly, NC Spokesperson Dilendra Prasad Badu, told the media persons that the meeting nearly reached consensus, and the meeting on Friday morning would finalise the remaining matters. He also argued that the discussion was heading to consensus this time.
UCPN (Maoist)'s Vice-Chairman Narayan Kaji Shrestha said the four sides had a very optimistic discussion, and the top leaders from the four sides were given responsibility to have discussion within their parties.
