TIA resumes operation after three hours
- Shut down for runway maintenance
Jun 5, 2015-
Tribhuvan International Airport which was closed down, from 7 am on Friday, for maintenance of its runway has started operating. The airport halted its services for about three hours before resuming its services at 10 am today.
The landing strip has reportedly suffered cracks due to the arrival of a large number of heavy aircraft, especially those bringing in relief supplies following the April 25 Great quake.
As a result of the airport being shut down, some incoming aircrafts were diverted to nearby Indian cities. A Turkish Air plane was diverted to New Delhi while an aircraft of Oman Air landed in Lucknow, according to Bharat Kumar Shrestha, airport manager of Oman Air.
