Koirala challenges UML to bring no-confidence motion
Nepali Congress (NC) central leader Shekhar Koirala has challenged CPN-UML, to table the no-confidence motion against the NC leadership if the party doesn't have faith in the current govt.Binod Ghimire
Saying that the CPN-UML was in a hurry to take the leadership of government, Koirala said his party is ready to stay in the opposition bench if the UML formed the government under its leadership.
Speaking at a press meet organised here in Dhankuta on Sunday, Koirala said the only alternative to remove the Nepali Congress (NC) from the government is bring the no-confidence motion. “There are high chances of promulgating the new constitution at the earliest, if the CPN-UML formed a new government with UCPN (Maoist) and Madhes-based parties,” said Koirala, "But the UML should be able to convince the parties on federalism."
The NC leader made it clear that his party would not join the government formed under UML leadership. It is necessary to forge agreement on the demarcation and names of the federal units as the UCPN (Maoist) and Madhes-based parties would not become ready for the local body elections without finalising the issue of federalism, Koirala remarked.
He said there is no need to form a national government on the pretext of reconstruction in the aftermath of the Great Earthquake. “Crisis management and national government are separate issues,” said Koirala.
In a different context, Koirala said it would be appropriate to go for the Nepali Congress General Convention only after completing the district convention by mid December in view of the difficulty to conduct convention in the districts hit hardest by the recent earthquakes.
