Baisari landslide victims to be resettled in safer location
Steps have been initiated for the resettlement of 27 families who were rendered homeless after a heavy landslide from Kaphaldanda buried their houses in Baisari of Myagdi district on May 24.Currently, the landslide victims have been residing at Rahupare of Piple VDC-4 by constructing temporary shelters.
A meeting of the District Natural Disaster Management Committee on Sunday decided to take steps to resettle the 27 families at a public land in Rithabot of Bhagawati VDC-1 along the Beni-Jomsom road section in accordance to the victims' demand, Chief District Officer Tek Bahadur KC said.
CDO KC added that immediate efforts would be taken to resettle the landslide victims, those lacking land plots in other areas, in Rithabot permanently by confirming the victims' status from the District Survey Office and Land Revenue Office. However, the Council of Ministers should take a decision for the resettlement in the public land.
The Committee said that appropriate land for resettlement would be identified after holding further consultations with the lawmakers from the district and stakeholders.
Chair of Baisari Landslide Victims Relief Management Committee Bhim Bahadur Karki said that requests were made for their resettlement in Rithabot hoping that they would earn their living even by running hotels in the area. Prior to landslide, most of the Baisari landslide victims were running their livelihood by running hotels and shops.
However, secretary of Bhagawati VDC Bholanath Acharya said they are facing land shortage to resettle all the landslide victims in a single area. RSS
