Safe house for gender-based violence victims
A safe house meant for survivors of gender-based violence has formally come into operation in Sindhuli district.Ekantipur Report
The one-story building of the safe house was constructed by the local Inter-party Women Network with the support of the District Development Committee and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). It was inaugurated on Thursday (June 11) during a function attended by government officials and representatives of development partners working in the district.
GBV survivors from various VDCs, including a few remote ones, have already started staying in the safe house, where they will receive various services such as psycho-social support, livelihood training, life skill education etc. Survivors of the earthquake, who have faced various forms of GBV, will also be referred to the safe house, according to the women’s network.
UNFPA has expressed commitment to strengthen the safe house through its on-going support to the District Development Committee of Sindhuli.
