Rs 5.07b deposited in PM Disaster Relief Fund
Various organisations deposited more than Rs 22 million in Prime Minister Disaster Relief Fund on Friday alone.According to information provided by the Office of Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, Rs 22,781,662 was deposited in the fund on Friday. Nabil Bank Limited became one of the highest institutional donors in Nepal by depositing Rs 20,100,000. Likewise, Nepal Pashmina Industries Association handed over a check worth Rs 1 million to Prime Minister Sushil Koirala on Friday morning. The Prime Minister Disaster Relief Fund is set up by the government to use money received from various national and international sources for rescue, relief and rehabilitation of victims and restoration of physical infrastructure damaged by natural disasters. Contributions can be made via online payment system, sending texts messages or by depositing cash in government’s accounts in various national banks.
Similarly on Friday, Rastriya Aawas Company Limited deposited Rs 200,000 in the PM’s fund while Dhulikhel-based NGO Sahayog Ra Sarokar deposited Rs 500,000 and Dolpa Samaj of Saldang in Dolpa district deposited Rs 700,000. Likewise, Namkha Khyung Zong Monastery of Kathmandu and Canadian nationals Michael Chuang and Sophia provided Rs 100,000 each while Rs 81,662 was collected from online donations.
Of all deposits in the fund after the Great Earthquake, the government of Hong Kong has made the largest one-time deposit of Rs 662 million. Asian Development Bank comes second with a deposit of Rs 306 million while Macau Special Administrative Region of China has deposited the third highest of Rs 253 million. Likewise, government teachers across the country have provided close to Rs 95 million and other government employees have collectively provided over Rs 358 million.
The fund has already disbursed Rs 8,401,600,000 to the Ministry of Home Affairs in six separate instalments.
