Monsoon finally covers entire nation
Monsoon has finally covered the entire country since Thursday morning, with chances of heavy downpours and thundershowers in Central and Western Nepal, according to MFD.This year’s four-month long rain bearing monsoon was delayed by three days from the normal onset date of June 10 and was weak with inadequate rains in the past two weeks.
In its special bulletin released on Thursday morning, MFD has cautioned that there is potential for heavy downpours/thundershowers increasing the risk of landslides and flash floods in few places of the Western and the Central regions starting Friday evening.
“Monsoon of this year reached up to the Far-Western region of the country from Thursday evening and now covered the entire region of our country,” said Barun Poudel, a meteorologist at MFD.
Due to Great the Great Earthquake of 7.9-magnitude and its subsequent aftershocks, many villages in the earth-quake affected zone and beyond are at high risks of potential disasters, especially landslides and floods.
“Widespread rain starting from yesterday evening through the Western region is likely to continue on Friday and it is spreading towards the Central and Eastern region. The rainfall activity is likely to continue in the country until Saturday and it is expected to be more pronounced in the western region,” MFD states.
