Speaking during a meeting of the State Management Committee of the Legislature- Parliament on Friday, DPM Gautam said the Nepal Police has already agreed on APF being given the authority to arrest.
A dispute erupted between the two security agencies after the APF sent a proposal to the Cabinet for the amendment of its regulations that would grant them authority to arrest anyone for investigation.
“The APF is not like a scout,” said Gautam in the meeting, “It carries weapons too. It should be given work.”
During the meeting, the Home Minister assured that there was no dispute among the two security agencies. “APF is a military force. It has been given the task of securing the border and industrial areas,” said Gautam, “Even if the APF is granted the authority to arrest, the investigation will be done by Nepal Police.”
Meanwhile, the committee has directed the Home Ministry not to grant the APF the authority to make arrests until the matter is being discussed.
