CA meet not yet convened
The meeting of Constitution Assembly (CA) scheduled to begin at 9 pm on Monday has not yet convened after UCPN (Maoist) refused to sign the first draft of the constitutionEkantipur Report
The CA meeting initially summoned at 3 pm today has been deferred twice –for 7 pm and 9 pm—after parties failed to garner consensus on the draft prepared by the Constitution Drafting Committee.
UCPN (M) refused to sign the draft accusing CDC that it added some words and provision against the 16-point agreement reached among the political parties on June 8, while giving final shape to the draft constitution.
The Maoist party raised objection for adding the word ‘parliamentary’ in the Preamble of the new constitution. Likewise, it expressed reservations for changing provision in citizenship issue, granting additional power to districts, among other.
Although the CA meeting has failed to convene yet, the top leaders are undergoing discussions at CA building to sort out the differences.
