Gorkha quake loss estimated at Rs37b
A preliminary assessment by the District Disaster Relief Committee shows that property worth Rs37 billion was destroyed in the April 25 earthquake and its aftershocks in Gorkha districtThe DDRC made the report public on Sunday. Information Coordinator of the committee Urmila Shahi said that private assets worth Rs35 billion and government and public property worth Rs2 billion were destroyed in the disaster.
According to the report, the quake affected 91,141 houses and sheds in the district. Among them 74,194 houses and sheds were completely damaged. The house destruction caused a loss worth around Rs34 billion.
“We have compiled initial details of destruction,” said Shahi. “We are collecting additional information to prepare the final report.”
The livestock loss is estimated at Rs242.4 million. Likewise, foodstuffs worth Rs647 million were destroyed. Around 4,912 tonnes of paddy and 4, 888 tonnes of millet, cereals and wheat perished in the calamity.
