According to the Office of the Controller of Examinations (OCE), around 65 percent of the total 3,256 students, including 1,246 girls, who sat for the tests received the ‘B’ grades, meaning they secured between 60 to 79 percent marks.
Of the total examinees, 215 got the ‘A+’ grades (90 to 100 percent marks) while 779 managed to get through the exam with ‘A’ grades (80 to 89 percent marks). The examination was held in March.
In the results published on Sunday, 2,131 students have got the ‘B’ grades, 123 got ‘C’ grades (40 to 59 percent) and only one student got ‘D’ grade. No examinees, however, got ‘E’ grade.
This is the first time the OCE has published the results in grading system in which the performance of the examinees has been categorised in five grades based on obtained marks. The system will be gradually implemented for the general category as well.
According to Examination Controller Bishnu Bahadur Dware, the performance of the technical students was far better than those taking the general SLC examinations as practical tests carried 60 percent marks in each subject in the technical SLC tests.
Only 47.43 percent of students under the general category had passed the general SLC results published last week. The technical education was introduced by the Ministry of Education in 2012 as a pilot project for students from 99 public schools across the country with an aim to gradually expand it to each electoral constituency.
The students who passed the exams with ‘D’ (25 to 39 percent) and ‘E’ grades (less than 25 percent) are considered to have failed the tests and are given the opportunity to sit for supplementary exam scheduled to be held in August, the OCE said. Likewise, even students who passed the technical SLC exams with ‘C’ grade may take retests if they want to improve on their grades.
Among the total examinees, 546 were from Eastern region, 755 from Central, 844 from Western, 594 from Mid-Western and 548 from the Far Western Development Region.
