Surkhet folks urge PM Koirala to make Surkhet a provincial capital
A five-day National Table Tennis Championship has kicked off at Lainchaur, Kathmandu from Tuesday.People of Surkhet district have placed their demand to Prime Minister Sushil Koirala for making Surkhet a provincial capital.
The Surkhet folks suggested to make Surkhet a provincial capital and declare secularism in the country at a programme organised to collect people's feedback on draft constitution from Monday. Lawmakers from all three constituencies in Surkhet have also raised the demands put forth by locals.
Speaking at the programme, PM Koirala said the new constitution would be promulgated as per the people's wish.
The Prime Minister said that he was very happy and inspired from the huge participation of people in the programme although people have been affected by quake, landslide and flood. He further said that the new statute should be brought for sustainable peace, development and stability in the country.
“Extensive discussions would be held on the feedback given by the people and incorporated in the constitution after debate,” the Prime Minister said, claiming that a constitution guaranteeing the rights of the indigenous nationalities, women, dalit, the backward classes would be brought.
The PM said people’s suggestions are being solicited as there are some shortcomings and weaknesses in the draft and also expressed the confidence that the future of Nepal and the Nepalis was bright now that the new constitution is in the offing after a long wait.
Former Minister Gangalal Tuladhar, who accompanied the PM to Surkhet, stressed the need for ensuring the new constitution is delivered within mid-August and that it is representative of the voices of all classes including the women, dalits, indigenous nationalities and Muslims.
