Over 200 Banda enforcers arrested
Nepal Police has said that over 200 general strike enforcers have been arrested from across the country on Friday.Ekantipur Report
Prior to this, reports of arson and vandalism carried out by the Netra Bikram Chand-led CPN (Maoist) cadres have been received from different places in course of the Nepal banda (shutdown) called by the party.
The Chand-led party enforced the general strike to protest the 'Lipulekh' agreement signed by India and China. The neighboring countries India and China recently signed the trade agreement to open a trade transit point at 'Lipulekh' though Nepali territory.
Likewise, the Banda enforcers have vandalised a truck (Ba 4 Kha 8787) at Bhumesthan VDC-4 in Dhading district and a motorbike (Na 10 Pa 1845) at Nalang VDC-6 of the district. The general strike badly affected the normal life in the district.
Likewise, protestors torched a van (Ba 12 Cha 9502) at Bhumlutar VDC-6 along the Araniko Highway today itself in Kavrepalanchowk district. However, police have arrested three cadres involved in the incident. The arrested are Kali Bahadur Majhi, Kiran Ghimire and Nirdosh Timilsina, police said.
Similarly, the CPN Maoist cadres vandalised two trucks at Baseni in Chitwan district, police said. Meanwhile, truck driver Bhim Aryal, 48, was injured in the incident.
Police have arrested 22 people who were enforcing shutdown of schools and bazaars in Kanchanpur district.
Due to the general strike, Nepali workers returning home from India through the Gaddachauki border point are stranded.
However, Mustang district was not affected by the general strike as the life in the district is normal.
