For the last two years, two intellectually challenged sisters at Tipling VDC-7 in Dhading district have spent their days in an enclosure while their parents go to work.Harihar Singh Rathaur
The parents said both of them have to work in order to sustain the family, and when they are out working there is no one to look after the girls, aged four and six.
Father Purna Bahadur Tamang said they do not have the money to take the girls to hospital for treatment.
The girls’ mother, Manamaya, said both her daughters were born with intellectual disabilities because she undernourished when she was pregnant.
Still today, the Tamang couple do not earn enough to properly feed the two children.
Buddhi Thing Tamang of Tipling VDC office said it was difficult for the couple to lead a normal life because of poverty.
The April 25 earthquake has made their situation worse. Ground failures caused by the earthquake has put their house at risk of getting swept away by landslides.
Purna Bahadur said he and his wife constantly worry about the safety of their daughters when they are at work these days.
