The UML’s leadership has decided to support parliament-elected executive chief, as mentioned in the 16-point deal among the major political parties.
Before the June 8 deal, the UML had been advocating for directly elected prime minister. UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli has said that the party had to give up its position for the sake of the 16-point agreement that paved the way for constitution writing.
