Rescued girls changing statements: CIB
The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB), which is investigating a recently found human trafficking racket, has said the victims are distraught and hindering its investigation. The CIB is investigating a racket which is believed to have been actively ferrying girls to various destinations through New Delhi and other Indian cities. On Tuesday, 27 girls were rescued by a joint effort of Indian security personnel and Nepali Embassy in New Delhi and brought back to Nepal.
According to Superintendant of Police Kiran Bajracharya, the rescued girls are disturbed and are giving contradicting statements at times. “They are confused over each detail. Each time we interview them, they tend to realise that the earlier versions of the statement might be wrong," SP Bajracharya said.
The girls, who hail from the areas worst hit by the recent earthquakes, were sent to the Ministry of Woman, Child and Social Welfare after which the CIB made arrangements to first interview the girls and study the documents seized so far.
Most of these girls hail from Gorkha, Sindhupalchok, Nuwakot, Kavre and Dhading. The girls told Indian authorities that they were approached by several persons promising better job abroad after the earthquake.
Indian authorities had also arrested 25-year-old Bishnu Tamang and 33-year-old Ishowari Neupane who are believed to be involved in the racket.
