Anfa prez refutes NOC claims
Anfa President Ganesh Thapa on Friday refuted claims that his association alone was responsible for the postponement of Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC) General Assembly. The NOC General Assembly on Thursday was deferred for a month saying that ‘a procedural error’ had occurred while corresponding with Anfa. The NOC statute requires its member associations be notified 21 days prior of the General Assembly. Anfa only received the letter on July 27.
NOC Secretary General Secretary and presidential candidate Jeevan Ram Shrestha in a press meet on Thursday claimed that they only erred in corresponding with ANFA while 25 other associations had no such problems. But Anfa president refuted the claim saying that NOC had not bothered to follow the simple procedure of corresponding with the 26 associations.
“It would have been understandable if NOC had followed the norms of notifying the other 25 NOC-affiliated associations in writing, but it wasn’t the case,” said Thapa. “I demanded the proof of the correspondence but they (NOC) could not produce it,” added Thapa. Thapa said he was not against the NOC election but rather would like them to adhere to the normal process. Thapa also said he would like to see NOC to address the court issues and duel existence of some of its member associations before going to the election.
