The assessment carried out by Japanese organization, Miyamoto International, has shown that the chief route to Everest did not suffer extensive damages in the massive earthquake, but partial damages with landslides in some areas. The organization has said the maintenance of the trekking route at such places would allow tourists easy access. 

According to a study report made public on Friday, landslides have occurred in two places along the trekking route. The report underscores the need for an alternate route. In the region with 15 major villages, 102 houses have suffered complete and 700 houses partial damages. 83 per cent of the region remains unscathed by the earthquake. 

In the Everest region, the study has found that only a kilometer of the trekking route stretch of 100 km from Fakdim, Toktok, Benker and Namche to Sansa have suffered damages. 

Annapurna region completely safe 

The organization had also made public a report two weeks ago stating that the all famous Annapurna trekking route remains fully secure. 

On the occasion, Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Kripasur Sherpa said the government was committed with a systematic plan to restore the major tourist destinations and important trek routes to their former composition. 

He added that the independent verification through a study report by an international organization of Khumbu region would lend significant contribution to promoting tourism in the area. 

The Ministry is making efforts to find new trek routes as an alternative and carrying out immediate maintenance work of some destroyed routes and keep the routes secure. "We will immediately solve the problems highlighted by the report, the reevaluation and maintenance works will be carried out in the affected regions after climate improves," Minister Sherpa said. 

Ministry's Secretary Sureshman Shrestha said after the monsoon is over a reassessment will be held in sensitive trekking routes underlined by the report and maintenance carried out. 

Tourism Department Director General Tulasi Prasad Gautam said the government would try to prepare all trekking routes within the next month. RSS
