Process underway to recover passenger bus
Security personnel have been unable to retrieve, until Monday morning, the passenger bus that was swept away by a landslide and into Tinau River at Siddhababa in Palpa district.The Gotakhor team of Kurintar-based Armed Police Force had found the bus on Sunday but the retrieval process could not take place due to limited daylight. However, efforts are underway since Monday morning to retrieve the bus.
According to Palpa DSP Suman Kumar Timsina, the 11-membered APF team informed that the bus is under the water level in an upside-down position.
Efforts to pull the drowned bus using ropes, tow chain and dozer failed as the rear part of the bus being trapped between rocks, informed the police.
The bus (Lu 1 Kha 5771) en route to Butwal from Palpa, met with the accident on Saturday.
The police said that the number of human loss could be ascertained once the bus was retrieved as they did not know the exact number of passengers in the bus. Dovan Police Beat chief Dhirendra Shrestha informed that the police are yet to ascertain the number of missing persons.
Meanwhile, the conductor of the bus has been saying that 15 out of the total 22 passengers of the bus were able to escape during the landslide.
