The operators of educational consultancies who were arrested on Tuesday on charges of fraud, document forgery and illegal operation have been remanded to custody for investigation.
The Kathmandu District Court and the Lalitpur District Court on Wednesday ruled that the suspects should remain in detention for investigation purpose.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sarvendra Khanal said they have started investigating the bank and tax details while also trying to locate the persons whose passports were recovered from some consultancies.
Following the instruction of the Ministry of Education (MoE), the Kathmandu Metropolitan Police Crime Division had raided 22 educational
consultancies in Kathmandu and Lalitpur districts and arrested their operators on Tuesday.
Operators of educational consultancies in Kathmandu Valley thronged the office of Kathmandu Metropolitan Police Crime Division at Teku on Wednesday, appealing for the release of the suspects. Throughout the day, SSP Khanal received phone calls from former and sitting ministers, asking him to free the suspects. Personal assistants of incumbent ministers and senior police officials also visited SSP Khanal to press for the suspects’ release.

Meanwhile, police raided seven more educational consultancies and arrested their owners on charge of operating the business without acquiring permits from government permit.
Police raided Global Ed Consultancy, Sinjitsu Education Consultancy and Alice Education Consultancy in Kalanki, Worldwide International Education Counselling Consultancy, Blue Sky Immigration Student Consultancy in Thapathali and Skyler Education and Business and PIP Education Private Limited based in Kalimati. According to the MoE, there are only 174 licensed educational consultancies while the decision for 27 other firms is awaiting operational consent.
