The music video, sung by the duo of Udaya- Manila Sotang and directed by Subrat Acharya, features Nepalis living in 10 different countries across the world.
The Hami Uthne Chhaun campaign, that came in force after the Great Earthquake, aims to inspire people to get involved in Nepal’s rebuilding process. The movement was initiated by non-residential Nepalis residing in Hong Kong, Macau and China.
During the programme, held in Thapa Gaon, Banewshwor, a documentary that portrayed the massive destruction caused by the quake and the philanthropic relief work carried out with the financial assistance of Nepalis settled abroad was also screened. The relief work was coordinated by Hong Kong based journalist Nirmal Shrestha and Suraj Gurung.
The programme saw the presence of journalist Rabindra Mishra, actor Rajesh Hamal, chairman of the Hong Kong Nepalese Taekwondo Association—Tulsi Gurung, and cricketer Paras Khadka, among others.
After the Great Earthquake, the campaign raised Rs 4.5 million, and built 40 temporary settlements for margnalised communities in Karthale-7 in Sindupalchok district, and also rebuilt the Ishowrimala Primary School, in addition to establishing a scholarship fund for the school. The campaign also provided a total of Rs 50,000 each to families who had lost their relatives during the quakes.
Speaking during the programme, journalist Rabindra Mishra said, “We first have to examine our own character and bring changes to it; only then we can change the nation.”
The coordinator of the programme, Shrestha said, “Many Nepalis are coming together with the aim of rebuilding the country; we are simply trying to connect those sentiments and working together for nation building.”
During the programme, the Hong Kong Nepalese Taekwondo Association announced they were going to organise a charity music show on October 1 in Hong Kong.
