Landslides triggered by incessant rainfall swept away eight houses at Siddhicharan Municipality and Kuibhir VDC in Okhaldhunga in the past couple of days.
Pilsumaya Rai, 68, and Samjhana Rai, 14 of Sinapa-2 were injured due to landslides. Police Inspector Baidhyanath Yadav said three houses were swept away at Jangale in Sinapa-11.
Locals said 29 houses and Raktamala Primary School building are at risk of landslides in the village. In Kuibhir-9, landslides buried houses of Janak Bahadur Magar, Bhim Bahadur Magar, Karna Bahadur Magar and Puspharaj Niraula.
“Around one hundred ropanies of farmland has been swept away. Affected families are taking shelter in their neighbors’ houses,” said Gita Karki of Kuibhir. The area has been receiving rainfall since Saturday morning.
Landslides have also damaged several sections of Siddhicharan Highway and other rural roads. Chief District Officer Yadav Subedi said they are trying to remove debris from the roads. “Nepal Army, Nepal Police and Armed Police Force personnel have been deployed to minimise risk,” he said.
Meanwhile, the District Administration Office has relocated families from Bilandu, Harkapur, Prapcha, Gamnangtar, Mulkharka and Tarkerabari VDCs to safer locations. Locals at Jalkeni in Phulbari VDC, however, said they are living in a community forest fearing landslides.
In Gulmi, landslides damaged the canal of Daramkhola Small Hydropower Project at Bami, disconnecting power supply to around 1,000 households. Similarly, landslips at Resunga-10 have displaced 25 families.
In Dailekh, landslides obstructed Karnali Highway at Dullu-2 on Saturday.
Likewsie, in Bardiya, local administration has cautioned people living along the Karnal and Babai rivers against floods as water levels in the rivers increased following rains.
In Kavre, transportation along Jirokilo-Melamchi road has become one-way for the past one week due to landslides. Likewise, landslip that started in April at Kodari Bhir in Mahadevsthan-9 has not come under control.
