A farmer Basudev Upadhyay of Patlelhet VDC said that some 120 litres of milk was spilled as a symbolic protest, as milk produced by the farmers was not sold due to banda. Furthermore, the Dairy Development Corporation (DDC) had not purchased milk saying the quantity of milk produced by them was high.
He said that they would launch phase-wise agitation if the DDC does not buy the milk produced by the farmers.
Some 100 farmers of Kushadevi, Patlekhet and Mahadevsthan, among others threw the milk on the road saying the milk produced by them have no value.
Upadhyay said, "We will wait for few days and would spill the milk at the premises of DDC if problem is not resolved. Otherwise, there is no alternative to launch agitation."
As per the data of the District Livestock Service Office, Kavrepalanchowk, a total of 400,000 litres of milk is produced in the district every day before earthquake. Out of this, 210,000 litres off milk is exported to Kathmandu.
The district used to make a daily income of Rs 150,000, according to the data. Farmers said that the district has to bear some Rs 5 million loss due to the two-day banda. RSS
