Three days after the Tikapur incident that led to the death of 9 people, including 8 policemen and the toddler, the situation remains tense.
"I want justice," says Tekendra's mother.
Unicef has said it is shocked by the death of a 2-year-old in the Kailali clash, and has called on concerned parties to protect children during demonstrations and agitations.
In a press release, Unicef Representative Tomoo Hozumi said the death of a child under any circumstances was unpardonable, “Tek Bahadur was just two years old. He was barely a toddler, yet his innocent young life was snuffed out in the violence in Tikapur on Monday. This is an extremely troubling incident,” he said.
“Words cannot express enough the terrible feeling on death of the child in Kailali. This incidence epitomises the growing vulnerability of children in the face of violence. Their right to live and study in a violence-free environment should once again be recognised and respected by all,” said Hozumi in the statement.
