Local administration in Kailali has stepped up security measures along the Nepal-India border after seven police officials and a minor were killed in Monday’s Tikapur clash.
“Additional security personnel have been deployed in the border region as local people continue to feel insecure. The area is under surveillance to check possible infiltration of criminal groups,” said Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Madhav Prasad Nepal.
Security personnel have enhanced vigilance at Bhajani, Hasuliya and Khakraula border points. The district shares 101 kilometre open border with India.
Similarly, additional security personnel have been deployed in the villages declared as “riot zone” and patrolling along the East-West Highway have been intensified to ensure security in the region.
DIG Nepal said there were no any untoward incidents in Dhangadhi on Wednesday owing to the mobilisation of additional security personnel.
Meanwhile, a District Security Committee meeting has decided to set up Armed Police Force (APF) base camps in Dhansinghpur and Hasuliyapur. Chief District Officer Mohan Chapagain said that additional APF personnel will stationed at Bahuniya.
Chapagain said he initiated consultations with leaders of various political parties and the civil society to maintain peace and security in the district.
Meanwhile, police on Wednesday detained seven additional suspects in connection with the Tikapur incident.
Superintendent of Police Bikram Chand said the suspects are taken into custody and an investigation has been initiated. The detainees are the residents of Manuwa and Bhajani villages in the district.
