Three hurt in Nawalparasi clashes

The clashes ensued as the protesters tried to enter the prohibited zone. Security personnel lobbed teargas canisters and fired bullets to bring the situation under control. Local resident Munni Kalawar was injured when a bullet entered her house through the window. She is receiving treatment at Prithivi Chand Hospital. Protester Bihad Dhobi of Sanai VDC, who sustained serious bullet injury, is undergoing treatment at a hospital in Bhairahawa.
Meanwhile, Anil Thakur of Dubauliya-6 was also injured as a teargas canister cut his leg while participating in the demonstration at Shantichaur.
Chief District Officer Hari Prasad Mainali said police opened fire after protesters hurled stones at them.
In Bhairahawa, local administration has extended the prohibition order until August 30.
Rupandehi CDO Bishnu Prasad Dhakal said security personnel are authorised to open fire if protests turn violent.
In Bara, local administration has imposed a prohibition order in Kalaiya and its surrounding areas to bring the situation under control. CDO Bal Krishna Panthi said organising gatherings, strikes and similar activities are prohibited in the area.

Banke, Bardiya and Dang have also extended the existing prohibition order for a few more days.
