Five people were killed, one went missing and six sustained injuries in landslides triggered by incessant rainfall in Gosyang and Samari VDCs on Thursday night.
Som Bahadur Tamang, 36, his wife Sukamaya, 35, Phurkamaya Tamang, 36, and Keshav Tamang, 11, of Gosyang-2 and 80-year-old Sita Kumari Tamang of Samari-7 had died, police said. Their bodies were found buried in the debris. Eight-year-old Purna Bahadur Tamang of Gosyang-2 is still missing. The landslides swept away two houses in Gosyang-2 and one in Jharlang of Samari-7.
Locals and police rescued six people who were buried by rock. Deputy Superintendent of Police Siddhi Bikram Shah said four of the injured are receiving treatment in Trishuli Hospital whereas critically hurt Samjhana Tamang and Sundar Bahadur Tamang were sent to the Capital. Some of the villagers fled homes after mud and boulders started falling at around 2am. Meanwhile, the landslips at Sirantol in Gosyang threaten 36 houses. The landslides also swept away a suspension bridge and damaged a few houses. According to local Jaya Bahadur Tamang, paddy fields in Basusing, Gosyang and Chatrekhola have been destroyed and seven of his cattle had died.
