Sending a seven-point demand letter to the government on Saturday, Tharuhat-Tharuwan Joint Struggle Committee, a loose alliance of Tharu lawmakers, right organizations and NGOs, urged Prime Minister Sushil Koirala to address their demands to clear way for dialogue.
Demands include lifting the curfew, withdrawing Nepal Army from the street, declaring martyr to those who lost their lives in protests and releasing their leaders and cadres arrested during the protests. The letter also demands of providing free treatment to injured protesters and withdrawing criminal charges against the protesters.
“We want assurance that government and major parties are really committed for a political solution to the crisis as its activities at the ground suggests otherwise,” said Raj Kumar Lekhi, former Chairman of Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities (Nefin).
