In a letter sent to the government on Sunday, Nefin, an umbrella organisation 56 indigenous communities, said the major parties should first assure that all past agreements signed with Janajati would be honoured. Nefin was responding to Prime Minister Sushil Koirala’s written appeal for talks. PM Koirala last week invited all the agitating groups including Nefin to come for talks to seek political solution to the crisis in Tarai.
Other demands of the Nefin include lifting the curfew, withdrawing Nepal Army from the street, declaring those killed in protest as martyr and release their leaders and cadres arrested during the protest. It has also called for free treatment to those injured in the protest.
“We will sit for talks as soon as the government provides assurance,” said Nagendra Kumal, Nefin chairman.
