Parsa District Administration clamped curfew in Birgunj sub metropolitan city on Monday as the situation remained tense throughout the day with sporadic clashes between the cadres of Samyukta Loktantrik Madhesi Morcha and the security personnel.
According to Chief District Officer of Parsa, Keshav Ghimire, the curfew order was issued after the protests turned violent. The curfew order issued from 4 pm Monday will remain effective until further notice.
The demonstration by agitating Madhesi parties has entered the 17th consecutive day today. People from Madhesi community took the streets at major thoroughfares in the city. Police lobbed around a dozen of tear-gas shells and fired into the air to disperse the protesting mob.
