Police fired more than a dozen blank shots into the air and lobbed several rounds of teargas shells as the situation turned violent in Kalaiya, Bara, on Monday due to clashes between police and the agitators.
At least 10 people including Sanghiya Samajwadi Forum Nepal General Secretary Ramsahaya Yadav were injured in the clash, it is learnt.
Tension ran high in the district through the day as the cadres of Samyukta Loktantrik Madhesi Morcha and the security personnel clashed. Frequent clashes erupted after the protesters marched ahead by defying the prohibitory order.
The protestors had organised ‘baton rally’ at Bharat Chwok, Kalaiya, and held a corner assembly afterwards. Soon after the assembly ended, they started heading towards the police office violating the restricted area.
