The situation became tense in Bypass road at Nagma in the southern town of Birgunj after protesters clashed with police on Monday. So far, eight people have been injured in the clash.
The police fired 25 rounds in the air and lobbed dozens of tear-gas shells to disperse the unruly demonstrators.
The agitated protestors hurled stones and petrol bomb at security personnel while they were attempting to remove the roadblocks set up by the protestors. They also vandalised a Nepal Telecom office located at Ghantaghar this afternoon.
According to locals, today’s protest comes against the police action where Nagma locals were thrashed at their homes on Sunday night.Earlier on Sunday, a clash had ensued between security personnel and demonstrators in the same area. Over a dozen people were injured during yesterday’s clash including one Armed Police Force personnel.
A prohibitory order has been issued in the road section from 8 am to 6pm today.
