Sep 1, 2015-
The protest of Dr Govinda KC garnered widespread support from several parts of the country as the fast-unto-death of the orthopaedic surgeon entered its eighth day on Monday.
Kathmandu University Professors’ Association has extended its support to the ongoing protest of Dr KC. Among the 8-point demand, the association said that it supports scrapping affiliation of Devdaha and Birat Medical College and action against officials of KU found in irregularities while granting affiliation. Dr Bibhuti Ranjan Jha, president of the association, urged the government to immediately address all the demands of Dr KC.
In Dharan, doctors and students took out a silent rally supporting Dr KC. The doctors demanded that the government should pay heed to Dr KC’s points seriously and also ensure that he is not compelled to stage another strike for reforms in medical education.
Meanwhile, doctors attending Dr KC said that he has developed chest pain since Sunday, a worrying sign of his deteriorating health. “He is exhausted. If he continues, it could be really bad,” said Dr Divya Singh.
Dr KC is on his sixth fast-unto-death demanding immediate implementation of Kedar Bhakta Mathema-led committee and an end to political appointment in universities, among others.
