Relief materials meant for the earthquake victims in the northern region of Dhading are stuck in a warehouse at the district headquarters for the past two months.
An official at the District Disaster Management Committee (DDMC) said Oxfam Nepal, Handicap International, ACTED, Focus Nepal and Nepal Jesus Society are responsible for distribution of the relief materials, including galvanised roofing sheets and food.
These organisations, the official said, have expressed inability to get the relief materials to the earthquake victims, citing lack of transportation fare.
Bhola Gautam, information officer at the DDMC, said the concerned organisations have been asked to distribute the relief materials to the concerned villages as early possible.
A representative of one of the organisations said that since a large portion of the budget was used to pay the staff their salary and in office operation, there is not enough fund left to ferry the relief materials.
Chief District Officer (CDO) Bashudev Ghimire said people from the northern region of the district visit him almost every day to enquire when would the relief materials reach their villages.
Transporting the relief materials has also been hindered by landslides along the road leading to the earthquake-ravaged northern region of Dhading.
Sitaram Prasad Barma, a local transport service operator, said they can repair the road and open the way for light vehicles, but they have to wait for the monsoon to pass.
CDO Ghimire said the concerned organisations should not turn away from their responsibility.
The earthquakes of April 25 and May 12 had caused severe destruction in northern Dhading VDCs like Ree, Lapa, Tipling, Sertung, Jharlang and Satyadevi. The quake-affected villagers are living in makeshift shelters fashioned out of old roofing sheets and tarpaulins.
