The five-km run organised by Nepal Center of North Carolina (NCNC) saw huge participation of Nepali people in the state and was accompanied by live music and dance shows, Nepali exhibition and food stalls. Issuing a statement, event Coordinator Dipendra Lamichhane said that the rally was one of the biggest running events in the Research Triangle Park region.
Addressing the event, Kailash Pokhrel of the Nepali embassy in US highlighted the importance of aid in rebuilding the country. During the event, Steve Rao, Town of Morrisville representative, said: “Although the runners today crossed the finish line, Nepal is still very far from the finish line and a lot more still needs to be done to help rebuild Nepal.”
According to NCNC, it has so far raised about $70,000 for earthquake victims through several activities. Lamichhane said they will now collaborate with New York-based organisation Educate the Children International for their mission of rebuilding elementary schools in Nepal.
