The play, based on writer Sarubhakta’s script, is a product of Theatre Lab 4’s three-month-long acting course designed by Mandala for its fourth batch of students. The crew members and cast is made up of all the 20 students of the batch.
The play’s plot revolves around the struggles of a woman to get by in a patriarchal society, set somewhere in western Nepal. Although it is largely realistic, it also borrows some techniques from surrealism. The story starts out with a fisherman who has caught a very large fish. Once he gets home, the fisherman comes to know that the fish is actually a beautiful woman. The fisherman marries the woman, who gives birth to Siru, the protagonist of the play. As the play progresses, Siru (played by Nisha Karki) finds herself drowning in a world of complex relationships and responsibilities.
The play features actors Bijay Baral, Somnath Khanal, Jivan Bhattarai, Anup Neupane, Sandip Poudel and Sharada Adhikari, among others.
The play was first staged on August 28 and it will continue to be staged until September 20 every day (except Mondays) at 5:15 pm.
