Stating that the constitution drafting process is purely an internal matter of Nepal, the CPN-UML on Monday urged the international community to refrain from making any statement and carrying out activities that could derail the process.

A meeting of the party Standing Committee on Monday discussed the role of international actors and community in Nepal’s constitution making process. Foreign Minister Mahendra Bahadur Pandey briefed the participants about interest of various international communities in Nepal’s constitution drafting process, federalism and other issues.

The meeting took serious note on statements made by leaders and representatives from various friendly nations and urged the international community to refrain from making any “controversial” statements at a time when Nepal is in a final leg of promulgating the new constitution.

“The party has taken note over the statements made by some leaders and delegations from various friendly nations. We have urged them not to make statement against the sovereignty that will digress the national unity,” UML Secretary Yogesh Bhattarai said after the meeting.

“The constitution making process is purely the internal matter of Nepal and we need good wishes and support from the international community,” said Bhattarai.

The party also urged the government to take serious note over the statement and activities of the foreign leaders and delegates. During the meeting, party Chairman KP Oli reiterated that the new constitution will be promulgated by mid-September.

The meeting also discussed security situation across the country and urged the government to step up security arrangements to prevent any untoward situation.
