Janakpur saw violent protests in which a person sustained bullet injuries while demonstrators resorted to vandalism in Mahottari. Normal life was greatly affected in all the Tarai districts and some hill districts due to the protracted shutdown. There has been a shortage of daily commodities. In Janakpur, Sujit Sah, 20, of Mahottari got bullet injuries in police firing at Bhanuchowk. Police fired rubber bullets and tear gas shells as the clashes turned ugly. Two other demonstrators were also hurt. Enraged protesters attempted to torch the house of Nepali Congress lawmaker Ramkrishna Yadav.
In Mahottari, banda enforcers ransacked the NC party office in Jaleshwor. A group of about 50 people barged into the office and vandalised furniture.
The Madhesi Morcha and Tharuhat supporters have shut Tarai districts for two weeks. Some other parties and ethnic groups have also resorted to the tactic to press their demands.
