Banda continues to affect life across Tarai
An indefinite banda called by Sanghiya Limbuwan Party Nepal affected normal life in Panchthar, Ilam, Jhapa, Morang, Sunsari, Tehrathum, Dhankuta, Bhojpur and Sankhuwasabha districts on Friday. Meanwhile, tension ran high at Gudari Chok in Biratnagar on Friday evening after cadres of Samyukta Madhesi Morcha started burning tyres. Police charged batons and fired tear gas shells to bring the situation under control.
In Saptari, a passenger bus parked in front of a Bhardaha police station was torched by Morcha supporters on Thursday night. Police said the bus (Na 4 Kha 4266) was parked after it broke down while being escorted to its destination. In Sarlahi, Morcha supporters torched a vehicle with Indian number plate (BR 30 B 3908) at Sirsiya. The vehicle was heading towards Malangawa from Nawalpur.
Likewise, in Rautahat, a group of armed people torched four vehicles of Garuda-based Shreeram Sugar Mills on Thursday night. Police said around 20 people took the security guards under their control and torched the vehicles.
In Baglung, protesters staged a rally in district headquarters demanding that the district should not be divided and be included in Province 4 while federating the country.
In Birgunj, the District Security Committee has decided to recommend Ministry of Home Affairs to declare five protesters, who were killed during recent protests, as “martyr”. Dilip Chaurasiya, Dharmaraj Singh, Dinanath Sah, Jay Prakash Sah Teli and Sohan Sah were killed during demonstrations.
