'Concert for Nepal' to be held in London
Soloists, choirs will be joined by traditional Nepali dances along with Members of the British Gurkha Veterans Association. Proceeds will go towards helping children who suffered during the Great Quake (File Photo)Spitalfields Market, a popular market in London is set to host to a concert, the largest of its kind—with classical music, dance and spoken word— in order to fundraise for children who have suffered from the Great Quake.
According to the Headfirst Productions, a theatre company that is organising the concert, soloists, choirs will be joined by traditional Nepali dances along with Members of the British Gurkha Veterans Association.
The sister of the concert’s artistic director was in Nepal during both earthquakes. She was playing music in Pokhara when the 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck. Phoebe stayed in Pokhara for another month to help with immediate relief work. "It is absolutely essential that we remember that Nepal's rebuilding efforts are ongoing," Sophie Gilpin, artistic director is quoted saying; "We hope the open concert will maintain public awareness of this tragedy whilst also raising vital funds."
The event is free and will be held on September 6. The funds will go towards UNICEF’s appeal to support children affected by the earthquake.
