Morang police spokesperson DSP Pramod Kharel informed that the protestors sprinkled petrol on two Nepal police sub-inspectors, two APF assistant head constables and one constable and tried to set them on fire. Their attempts were foiled only after police fired multiple rounds on air which dispersed the protesting crowd.
Kharel also informed that the protestors vandalised a station at Biratnagar customs and misbehaved a female police officer.
UMDF supporters clash with police in Biratnagar
Clashes have erupted between the supporters of United Madhesi Democratic Front and police in various areas of Biratnagar including Rani and Bhatti area, near the Indian border, since early Wednesday morning.
Earlier, this morning, a clash occurred between the locals of Mills Area and the banda enforcers after the latter forcefully tried to shut down a shop of one Arjun Chaudhary.
Security personnel arrived at the scene of incident after which the protesters turned violent towards the security personnel. The police had to fire 11 rounds of bullets in the air and few tear-gas shells to disperse the demonstrators, informed Morang Police Spokesperson Pramod Kharel.
The locals who are defying the banda have torched a motorcycle belonging to the demonstrators.
Likewise, the protesters have set fire on a motorcycle owned by Makalu TV and pelted stone towards TV correspondent Nabin Karn and Gorkha Patra correspondent Jitendra Yadav. They have sustained minor injuries.
A large number of security personnel from Nepal Police and Armed Police Force have been deployed in the area on the Nepali side. Similarly, the Indian side has also deployed large number of Seema Suraksha Bal (SSB) personnel.
Meanwhile, protesters have vandalised over half a dozen motorcycle at Mahabir Chowk here. The protesters burnt tyre and obstructed the movement of rickshaw and cycle as well.
